Astrid Stuckelberger

Dr. Astrid Stuckelberger is a scientist, teacher, and writer internationally recognized for her work and publications in different areas of public health including policy, gender, ageing, technology, human rights, and ethics. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Science from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Geneva with a specific focus on health. She is one of the main scientists and only woman in the Public Health Medical School of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva, which she joined a decade ago after working for the Swiss and Geneva government on health policy and research.
United Nations: She is currently involved in different collaborative projects with the World Health Organisation, such as the International Health Regulation on health management in emergency situations, the Evidence-Policy Network and the Ethics aspects of the social determinants of health. She also worked with the UNEP on environmental health after the Gulf War and with ILO on the psycho-social health aspects at work. She is also an expert in different EU research projects on health.
Publications: She has published several books and more than 100 scientific articles, policy papers, and governmental or UN reports. The latest three books were on ageing (with UNECE) and on ethical case study teaching material (with WHO and Harvard University) and on biotechnology and anti-ageing medicine presenting a 3-year international study on new trends and evidence for the Swiss Federal Department of education and innovation and TA-Swiss (technological assessment Switzerland).
With the Geneva Committee on Ageing and GINA, she has been a leader in bringing the human rights of older persons to the forefront of the United Nations agenda since 1999. For her commitment to ageing issues, she received an award from the UN Secretary-General in New York in 1999 and 10 years later was nominated as one of the 100 Swiss personalities of the year.
